Retoro Capital: New Name, New Partner, Bigger Dreams

You may have noticed little by little over the past few months that we are making some bigger and bigger changes around here.

We are excited to share that Rise Capital is now Retoro Capital! Along with new partners, we have a new name that better reflects our unique 3-part mission for helping investors achieve financial freedom to enhance meaningful lives.

The addition of our new financial partner, Lisa Moore, inspired us to clarify our vision to help investors achieve truly passive investments. This newsletter issue reintroduces the new us, spotlights our incredible team, shares our future plans, why any of this matters to you, and invites you to join us on this journey to a life you love fueled by passive income!

Retoro Capital Reflects Our 3-Part Mission Plan

We changed to RETORO Capital to capture our 3-part mission statement, which guides everything we do to empower investors.

We created this mission several years ago in our early days, but don't feel we've effectively communicated this passion to our existing investor base and potential investors who share these same values.

Here is the breakdown of the mission and how the new name RETORO reflects a sharper focus on it.

  1. Higher Returns (RET): We deliver 10-12% returns through debt investing in real estate, creating passive income streams to fund your dreams, whether that’s travel or a side hustle.

  2. Lower Risk (TORO): “Toro” draws from bull markets, symbolizing strength and risk reduction. Our asset-backed real estate investments diversify your portfolio beyond the stock market’s ups and downs.

  3. Giving Back (ORO): “Oro” means gold in Spanish, representing true wealth that strengthens families and communities through philanthropy. Successful families reach out lift up their entire community. It's like we are part of and helping to build an army of philanthropists!

Meet Lisa Moore, Our New Financial Partner

Lisa Moore, our new financial partner, brings 20 years as a financial analyst and deep experience in real estate via house hacking, multifamily, and commercial since 2017. Her data-driven approach strengthens our focus on fundamentals, ensuring we select investments that are smart, safe, and high-return. Passionate about financial education, Lisa helps investors understand their money and make it work for them. Her vision aligns with our mission and inspired us to refocus and rebrand as Retoro Capital to reflect our shared goals. Our founder Chris Borden and his wife Harmonie are the presidents of the Utah REIA where Lisa is already a board member, and we've developed a relationship by working with her over the past several years. She brings unique skills, experience, and drive to the team.

Our Team: A Powerhouse of Passion and Experience

Get to our team of real estate enthusiasts, dream-chasers, and do-gooders each bringing unique strengths to Retoro Capital. Here is the lineup:

  • Chris Borden, CEO: With 25 years as a retail chain president/CEO, Chris left the corporate grind for real estate. He leads our team and is our resident lending expert having originated over $20M in private real estate loans, guiding investors toward freedom.

  • Harmonie Borden: A former military caseworker and medical professional, Harmonie is a licensed Realtor driven by philanthropy and making the world better through investments. Together with Chris, they sponsor several non-profits including Elevate Côte d'Ivoire, driving economic empowerment and employment opportunities to those most in need.

  • Lisa Moore, CFO: Our financial partner, whose data-driven insights enhance our investment strategies and selections to offer in our investor portal.

  • Zasha Smith: A former civil engineer turned fix-and-flipper, Zasha has been investing in commercial real estate since 2022. She focuses on helping people invest passively while making a positive community impact.

  • Emma Powell, Co-Founder: That’s me. With my husband, Troy, I have moved from house hacking to commercial multifamily and development, creating income streams for flexibility and early retirement before age 50. We now travel full time while helping investors build their diversified portfolios.

  • Troy Powell, IT and Admin: After 25 years in corporate IT, Troy keeps our tech and operations running smoothly, freeing us to find great deals for you. He'll walk you through our portal signup and keep investors updated on all things Retoro including how your money is working for you.

We are united by our 3-part mission of earning higher returns with lower risk, and giving back. It’s about building a life you love built on a solid financial platform, not just chasing dollars.

With Lisa’s arrival, we are sharpening our approach. Here is what’s new at Retoro Capital:

  • Amplified 3-Part Mission: We are emphasizing higher returns, lower risk, and giving back to help you live life on your terms, whether that’s pursuing meaningful work, travel, or community impact, not just retiring early.

We are also developing more tools to help you plan passive income that funds your dream lifestyle and frees up time for work that matters to you.

In the Future: Expanding Our Horizons

Our $15 million fund is growing, and we have big plans. In the future, we will introduce another equity deal focused on long-term profit sharing and depreciation benefits, perfect for investors looking to beat even our great returns on private loans of 10 or 12% APR. Over 5 years reinvesting the gains, this can compound over 15% IRR, so we seek equity deals that can potentially outperform those returns.

We are also recycling investor capital into a consistent string of private loans to match our deal flow. Deal flow is still strong, but as we max out our capacity in the next 1-2 years, existing investors will receive priority in the portal.   • Asset-Backed Real Estate: Our investments are tied to tangible assets, providing stability while the stock market swings and include both private real estate loans and private commercial real estate equity. Whether you choose to lend private money to our network of investor borrowers, invest in one of our equity opportunities with experienced managers, or both, you are in control of your portfolio.
